Dr. Stefanos Chandakas is an Obstetrician–Gynecologist, Reproductive Surgeon, and one of Greece’s leading specialists in Advanced Laparoscopic, Robotic and Endoscopic Gynecologic Surgery, as well as Assisted Reproduction and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
Born in Athens in 1972, he graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he also obtained his PhD with distinction. He further earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Imperial College London, receiving notable distinctions in Entrepreneurship, including the European Business Entrepreneurship Award.
Dr. Chandakas completed his postgraduate and specialist training in the United Kingdom and the United States in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery, and Reproductive Medicine. He was among the youngest Consultant-level Gynecologists within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), gaining extensive experience in leading academic and tertiary referral centers.
With more than 25 years of clinical, surgical, academic, and executive experience, Dr. Chandakas has performed thousands of gynecological procedures and has helped thousands of couples achieve their dream of parenthood through modern fertility treatments and IVF. He has also successfully founded, developed, and managed gynecological and fertility centers in Greece and internationally, contributing significantly to the advancement of women’s healthcare and reproductive medicine.
In parallel with his clinical career, Dr. Chandakas has held several senior leadership positions in the healthcare sector. He served as Chairman of the Board of MITERA Hospital for six consecutive years, playing a pivotal role in its strategic growth and modernization. Following the integration of MITERA within the HYGEIA network, he currently serves as Vice President of HYGEIA Hospital, a member of HHG (Hellenic Healthcare Group), the largest private healthcare group in Southeastern Europe, where he actively contributes to the Group’s strategic planning and development.
Academically, he is an Associate Professor at the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, teaching Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Gynecologic Surgery and Assisted Reproduction. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of ORAMA VR in California, a pioneering company developing virtual reality solutions for medical education and surgical training.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Chandakas has enjoyed a distinguished career in sailing. He was a national champion, a member of the Greek National Sailing Team for eleven years, and represented Greece at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Today, he continues to serve sport and the Olympic Movement as Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
Social contribution has always been a cornerstone of his professional life. After many years of volunteer medical missions to remote Greek islands, he founded HOPEgenesis in 2015, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing Greece’s demographic challenge, supporting families, and revitalizing remote and underserved communities. Through its pioneering programs, HOPEgenesis has become one of the country’s most impactful social initiatives, receiving international recognition for its contribution to combating population decline and supporting motherhood and family life in Greece.
Today, Dr. Chandakas combines clinical excellence, academic leadership, healthcare governance, international business expertise, social impact, and active involvement in the Olympic Movement, making him one of the most recognized figures in gynecology, reproductive medicine, healthcare leadership, and social innovation in Greece and internationally.
