Dr. Stefanos Chandakas is an internationally trained obstetrician–gynecologist specializing in fertility, assisted reproduction (IVF), fertility preservation, and advanced reproductive surgery. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens, where he also completed his PhD with honors (“Excellent”), and holds an MBA from Imperial College London, with notable distinctions in Entrepreneurship, including the European Business Entrepreneurship Award (2003)—combining clinical excellence with strategic healthcare leadership.
He completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the United Kingdom, followed by advanced subspecialty training in laparoscopic and robotic gynecologic surgery, becoming one of the youngest Consultant Gynecologists in the UK National Health Service (NHS). His clinical focus is centered on personalized IVF treatment, fertility preservation, endometriosis and reproductive surgery, and the integration of minimally invasive techniques to optimize fertility outcomes.
With over 18 years of clinical and administrative experience, Dr. Chandakas has founded and developed gynecological centers and IVF units in Greece and internationally, caring for international patients from Europe, the Middle East, and North America. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MITERA Hospital , Hellenic Healthcare Group, one of the leading healthcare providers in Southeast Europe, contributing to the advancement of high-quality reproductive and women’s health services.
He’s also founding member and partner of the biggest IVF clinic in Greece, Hygeia IVF Embryogenesis.
He was recently appointed Associate Professor at the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, where he teaches and contributes academically in Assisted Reproduction and Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Gynecologic Surgery, actively bridging clinical practice, research, and medical education. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of ORAMAVR, a California-based company developing 3D medical education software, supporting innovation in surgical training.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Chandakas was a sailing champion and member of the Greek National Team for 11 years, representing Greece at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He continues to serve sport and the Olympic Movement as Secretary General of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
His philanthropic work spans more than 20 years, initially through the Aegean Team, providing medical and logistical support to remote Greek islands. In 2015, he founded HOPEgenesis, a Non-Profit Civil Company dedicated to addressing infertility, supporting families, and reversing Greece’s declining birth rate. In 2018, HOPEgenesis was recognized by the European Union as the best NGO in Greece, highlighting its measurable impact on reproductive health and demographic sustainability.
